Post-Storm Security Update

We hope everyone is safe and secure as we recover from Hurricane Ida.  Of course, we’re also sure that, wherever you are, you want to know that the neighborhood is being kept secure.

We have been in touch with NOPD and Garda World.  As you would expect, both organizations are dealing with limited resources.  Here is the status as of Wednesday…

NOPD

On-duty police officers have been called to 12-hour shifts in the aftermath of the storm.  Regulations dictate that officers may only work a total of 16 hours in a 24-hour period.  Thus, after working their NOPD shift, they can only work a 4-hour shift for private patrols.  The usual patrol shift is 8 hours.  Our patrol director indicates that they will do their best to find officers to man our patrols.

GARDA WORLD

As of Wednesday, 85% of Garda World’s patrolmen have not returned to work.  Currently, we are sharing a patrol with several nearby security districts.  As more employees return, the patrols will be correspondingly increased.

PATROL MOBILE PHONE

The UHSD phone number (504-451-1614) remains active and available to call for an escort to and from your home.  If you feel insecure leaving your home, do not hesitate to call for an escort.
