A message from the UHRA president

Recently, we have all been concerned with numerous issues in our neighborhood, including the proliferation of criminal activity, the deplorable conditions of our streets and routinely missed garbage pickups which are scheduled for Fridays but is regularly not picked up until well into the next week.  I want to assure you that the Board has been proactive about addressing these problems.

I have personally been in regular communication with our Councilman Joe Giarusso and he has assured me that the problems that we are having with the garbage pick up will end shortly and be back to a regular schedule.   Joe is also addressing problems with our streets, particularly the drainage construction project at the intersection of Webster and Perrier Streets which has seemingly gone on forever now.

We are also trying to keep our neighborhood safe from criminal activity by increasing the visibility of our private patrols from SEI and using the NOPD private patrol detail that we have in the evenings to concentrate on Webster Street where we have experienced the most criminal activity due to the corridor created by that one way street leading to Magazine street.

Next week, we have the opportunity to address our issues and concerns directly with NOPD, our private patrols and our City Councilman.  On Wednesday, January 18, we will host a general Residents Association meeting at the LaSalle Condominiums on Perrier Street.  We have arranged to have two of NOPD’s top deputy commanders in the Second District, as well as well as the supervisors of our private patrols and Councilman Giarusso to meet with our members to discuss these issues, and particularly the crime issue, and what we as residents might be able to do to better coordinate with NOPD to make our neighborhood as safe as possible.

This is a great opportunity that we all have to address our concerns with public officials who are responsible for these issues, so please plan on attending this general meeting of our Residents Association on January 18 at 6:00 PM in the lobby area of the LaSalle Condominiums building.  Please RSVP to info@upperhurstville.com. It is important that you RSVP in advance, as this building is a residence and we need to know in advance how many will be attending the meeting. We hope to see you on January 18!

Pat Talley,
President, Upper Hurstville Residents Association
