Leake Avenue repairs and garbage pickup update

LEAKE AVENUE REPAIRS

The City has announced that a section of Leake Avenue between Broadway and Prytania Street (appx. four blocks, from Lambeth House to Carver Playground) will be closed in both directions and under repair until Spring of 2022.  The official detour route is via Broadway and St. Charles Avenue.

Here is a link to the official notice.

GARBAGE COLLECTION and RECYCLING

The City has announced that once per week garbage pickup will continue for the time being, with no schedule for a return to twice weekly pickup.  However, recycling pickup may return to Uptown before the end of the year.  The sanitation fee added to the S&WB bill was waived for November, but will return for December.

To review, garbage pickup in Upper Hurstville is currently only on Fridays, except for addresses above Calhoun Street, which have pickup on Wednesdays.
